Victor Boniface looks to be edging closer to a move to Milan but uncertainties over the player’s right knee have led to another day of medical tests for the Bayer Leverkusen striker. However, the Rossoneri are not the first club in Italy to be offered Boniface this summer, with reports from Italy claiming that Roma rejected a swap proposal for Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk.

According to reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport, Leverkusen proposed a swap deal to the Giallorossi a few weeks ago between Boniface and Dovbyk. However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side had doubts over the player’s condition, the Nigerian having missed several games last season due to muscle problems.

Roma still reportedly consider Dovbyk as up for sale and would ideally like to replace the former Girona man, who the Giallorossi value at a reported €30 million.

Boniface edges closer to Milan after Roma snub

After the Roma talks concluded without a sale, Boniface will likely move to Serie A after all – unless the Nigerian’s extended medical examinations lead the Rossoneri to pull out.

Milan are closing in on a move that will see the Leverkusen forward arrive in Lombardy on loan, for a fee of around €5 million, and a buy option set at €25 million, bringing the potential total fee to just under €30 million.
