The game got off to a lively start with both sides coming close to breaking past the last line of defence inside the opening 10 minutes.

Real came closest with Dani Carvajal, returning to the side tonight, putting a brilliant low cross into the box., Fortunately for Bayern, it was not met by any of his teammates.

Moments later, Serge Gnabry could not find Harry Kane with his own cross after being played in by Leroy Sané.

In the 13th minute, Manuel Neuer made a stunning double save from Vini Jr. and Rodrygo, putting the first onto the post before gratefully holding the second. Prior to the chances, it appeared that two balls were on the pitch.

While the home side dominated possession, Thomas Tuchel’s side remained very dangerous on the counter.

Bayern suffered a blow just before the half hour when Gnabry went down clutching his hamstring and was replaced by Alphonso Davies. The Canadian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital.

Both sides had more half-chances before the break as the game more than lived upto its billing despite the lack of goals.

The second half continued in same vain with Vini Jr. causing havoc down the left, skinning Sané before having his cross snuffed out.  He then almost assisted his compatriot Rodrygo as the pressure built.

The Brazilian duo then tested Neuer in quick succession but the German captain did brilliantly well to keep his side level.

After being penned in for large parts of the second half, Bayern got their first true chance of the second 45 through Jamal Musiala, who saw his rising shot turned over by Andriy Lunin.

Shortly after, Alphonso Davies gave them the lead with an incredible curled strike after cutting in from the left. It was his first Champions League goal and what a way to get it!

Nacho thought he had equalised minutes later but his goal was ruled out for a push on Kimmich in the build up.

Real did get their equaliser with just two minutes left of regular time and it was via a major howler from Neuer. Vini Jr hit a shot that should have been easily held but he let it slipped and Joselu pounced to send the Bernabeu into a frenzy.

The Spanish striker then turned the game, the tie and the Champions League as a whole on its head with a second three minutes latter, tapping home after Antonio Rudiger put the ball across the box.

Bayern had a major claim for a goal 12 minutes into added time when the assistant referee raised his flag before the goal went into the net. There was a whistle from the referee but no VAR check, which will see the story only rumble on in the coming days.

Real held out and will now look to win their 15th title against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1st.
