A headline member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid this evening essentially ruled himself out of contention to feature in the upcoming Champions League final.

The player in question? Éder Militão.

Stopper Militão, for his part, was afforded his latest starting berth on Sunday, as Real Madrid made the trip to La Cerámica, for a meeting with Villarreal.

Still recovering full fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury, however, it is safe to say that the Brazilian endured an outing to forget…

En route to his side surrendering a three-goal advantage early in the 2nd-half, Militão made clear the fact that, as things stand, he is nowhere near his best.

Looking sluggish, lacking in confidence and physically not up to the challenge, the former Porto standout was bullied by Villarreal frontman Alexander Sørloth, on the latter’s way to four goals.

So dire did the situation become, that boss Carlo Ancelotti was left with little choice but to hook Militão from proceedings on the hour mark.

Chatter, of course, had spread of late that Militão could yet go on carve out a place for himself in Real Madrid’s starting XI for next month’s Champions League final.

On Sunday, however, the 26-year-old inadvertently brought to an end pretty much any chance of as much.
