Real Madrid have set their sights on Martin Zubimendi as they look to strengthen their midfield for the future.

The club has already initiated contact with Real Sociedad, hoping to secure the highly-rated midfielder, who is seen by many as the ideal successor to Toni Kroos.

In fact, according to Real Madrid Confidencial, the team from the Spanish capital is ready to offer €45 million for the Euro 2024 winner and that is certainly not it.

Zubimendi’s exceptional tactical awareness, precise passing, and ability to control the tempo of the game have made him one of the most sought-after midfielders and Real Madrid have not lost sight.

Arsenal in the race

While Arsenal have been monitoring the Spanish midfielder for some time, with Mikel Arteta keen to bring him in to play alongside Declan Rice, Real Madrid are determined not to miss this opportunity.

The Spanish giants have now intensified their pursuit and are working on a deal that could see them beat the Premier League club to his signature.

Zubimendi is currently under contract with Real Sociedad until 2027, and his release clause stands at €60 million. Although Sociedad would prefer to keep him, they are open to negotiations if an attractive offer is presented.

Real Madrid, on their part, are prepared to offer €45 million while also including a player in the deal to convince Sociedad to agree to the transfer.

Who will Real Madrid offer?

One of the names being considered as part of the offer is Gonzalo Garcia, a promising striker from Castilla. Real Sociedad admire his potential, and he could be an important factor in facilitating the move.

However, Real Madrid do not want to lose complete control over Garcia’s future and would likely push for a buyback clause or a structured agreement that allows them to retain some influence over his career.

For now, talks are underway, and Real Madrid aim to finalise the deal before Arsenal make a stronger bid. If everything goes according to plan, Zubimendi could be Los Blancos’ first signing for the 2025/26 season.
