AC Milan have officially announced Rafael Leao has signed a new five-year contract to keep him at the San Siro until 2028.
The new contract contains a €175 million buy-out clause which Milan will insist on if any potential suitors come in for him.
Since he arrived in 2019, Leao has become a key figure for the Rossoneri. He has made 162 appearances, bagging 41 goals and 29 assists.
The Portugal international won the Best Player in Serie A award last season. It is a testament to his exceptional abilities on the field.
The 23-year-old has played an instrumental role in Milan’s recent successes. He helped the team dethrone rivals Inter Milan as Serie A champions last season.
Despite facing some challenges this term, Leao has recorded 23 goal involvements in 34 league appearances, showcasing his importance to Stefano Pioli’s side.
Leao also made a significant contribution to Milan’s run to the Champions League semi-finals, netting one goal and five assists.
Unfortunately, his absence in the first leg of the clash against Inter Milan proved detrimental to their European aspirations.
Speculation arose about a potential move to Chelsea, with talks taking place between the clubs.
However, those rumours will end with the former Lille and Sporting Lisbon man signing for five years.
With their top-four finish already guaranteed this season, Milan will conclude their 2022/23 campaign with a home fixture against Hellas Verona on Sunday.
This announcement adds further excitement and stability to the club, as they look forward to building on their recent achievements and aiming for continued success.
The Rossoneri are reportedly tying up a deal with Chelsea for midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. After signing the Englishman, they will move for a striker.
