Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) take on Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday.

The Parisians will be itching to bounce back from their disappointing Club World Cup final loss to Chelsea and can take out their revenge on Tottenham.

PSG overcame several English opponents on their way to claiming the Champions League title last term and will back themselves to come out on top against Spurs.

However, Tottenham won’t roll over. Spurs know they have a mountain to climb as they bid to shock the world by toppling one of the best teams in Europe.

Spurs stuttered to the Europa League title, but they are ready to step up to the occasion and push PSG all the way.

PSG’s loss to Chelsea shows they are not infallible, and Spurs must look to capitalise on every chink in their armour.

PSG vs Tottenham: Match Preview

PSG dismantled everything in their path as they stormed to a historic quadruple, sweeping up the Ligue 1 and the two domestic cups alongside the Champions League.

They became the first French team outside Olympique Marseille to win the Champions League, a pursuit that has seen them spend massively since the Qatari takeover in June 2011.

Ligue 1 has been a happy hunting ground for PSG. Only three times since the takeover have they failed to win the league. They were equally dominant in the domestic cup competitions.

However, that European crown remained elusive until manager Luis Enrique acquired the perfect pieces for the puzzle and forged a feared demolition unit.

The fluid frontline of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Goncalo Ramos wreaked havoc.

The midfield trio played teams off the park with full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes terrorising opposition down the flanks.

PSG are a devastating force, and Spurs must be wary of getting swept away as they look to lay down a marker for the new season.

The odds are stacked against Tottenham. Europa League winners haven’t won the Super Cup since Atletico Madrid defeated Chelsea in 2012, but they cannot let that deter them.

Spurs somehow combined finishing 17th place in the Premier League with winning the Europa League, defeating Manchester United in the final.

PSG may be the overwhelming favourites, but there is always room for a memorable upset, and Spurs should lean into that mentality.

Team news

PSG will be without influential midfielder Joao Neves, one-third of the midfield fulcrum with Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz.

He received a red card in the Club World Cup final, and it carries into the Super Cup.

Enrique still has stellar options with Warren Zaire-Emery and Lee Kang-in waiting for the opportunity to prove their worth.

Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez missed the Chelsea clash but should be back for Spurs.

PSG’s dominance last term means they have not added many new players to their squad. Lucas Chevalier and Ilya Zabarnyi are the only incomings to date.

Les Parisiens remain the same formidable winning machine, with a clean bill of health. Even without many signings, they will take some stopping.

Unfortunately, Tottenham have not enjoyed the same luck with injuries. Left-back Destiny Udogie is currently recovering from an injury. The same goes for Radu Dragusin and Dominic Solanke.

Meanwhile, Tottenham playmaker James Maddison is reportedly set to miss a chunk of the coming season after sustaining a knee injury in pre-season.

The England international was only returning from a long-term absence before the setback, leaving Spurs short-handed, especially after their failed swoop for Morgan Gibbs-White.

It does not help that Dejan Kulusevski is also out for a considerable time. The Swede suffered an injury setback towards the end of last season.

Tottenham also lost Heung-min Son, who departed the club for Los Angeles FC, leaving another gaping hole in the attack.

The club have signed Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel, but their fans fear they do not have enough firepower to compete this season.

PSG

Enrique looks set to deploy his side in a fluid 4-3-3. Chevalier takes the gloves ahead of contract rebel Gianluigi Donnarumma, shielded by Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, and Mendes.

In midfield, the balance of Zaire-Emery’s dynamism, Vitinha’s creativity, and Ruiz’s control gives PSG a platform to dominate possession.

Up front, Doue’s flair and Kvaratskhelia’s unpredictability complement Dembele’s newfound confidence in front of the goal, creating a triple-pronged threat.

PSG Predicted Line-Up:

(4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Tottenham

Gianluigi Vicario stands firm between the sticks for Spurs, with Pedro Porro and Djed Spence offering width from full-back, and Cristian Romero partnering Micky van de Ven at centre-back.

Midfield enforcers Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha bring steel, while Pape Matar Sarr adds energy to the engine room as a makeshift number ten.

Brennan Johnson and Kudus will provide the creativity from the flanks, hoping to split the defence for Richarlison to score.

Tottenham Predicted Line-Up:

(4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Palhinha; Johnson, Sarr, Kudus; Richarlison.

Prediction

PSG’s sheer depth and quality should eventually overpower Tottenham’s resilience.

The French champions have the pace and precision to exploit any defensive lapse, and their midfield control is likely to dictate the rhythm.

Despite being well-drilled and dangerous on the break, Spurs are missing key creative outlets and may struggle to sustain attacking pressure.

Richarlison’s work rate could trouble PSG’s backline, but the Parisians’ relentless front three are capable of turning half-chances into goals.

Expect Tottenham to scrap hard and keep it competitive early on, but PSG’s class should shine through in the latter stages for a decisive victory.

Prediction: PSG win 3-1.
