Portugal vs France Latest Odds

Portugal came into the tournament with many observers cooing over the talent in their squad, and marvelling at the depth available to Roberto Martinez in every area of the pitch. Whilst this still may well be the case, there has been a definite slowdown of momentum for Portugal as they lost their final group game to Georgia and then struggled to break down a stubborn Slovenia in the round of 16.

France have ended up on this side of the draw by failing to win their group and although they made it past Belgium in the round of 16, there was precious little that was impressive about Les Bleus’ performance to suggest that they are on the verge of another major title. Mbappe and friends need to step up another gear.

What are the best bets for Portugal vs France?

Aurelien Tchouameni Over 1.5 shots & Kylian Mbappe Over 0.5 shots on target – 12/5 with Sky Bet

The new Real Madrid teammates can team up for a good bet for France here. Tchouameni has been keen to strike the ball from the edge of the box in this tournament, he has let fly nine times in the three appearances at the tournament, giving him the third most frequent shot ratio for France, just behind Marcus Thuram, and Mbappe. The masked man didn’t have a shot on target against Belgium, despite shooting five times, and the last time that he went back-to-back France matches without a shot on target was between the Euro 2020 exit to Switzerland and the Bosnia & Herzegovina World Cup Qualifier, three years ago.

Joao Palhinha to be booked – 23/10 with Paddy Power/Betfair

Palhinha received the most yellow cards in the Premier League in 22/23, and, amazingly, managed to defend that title in 23/24, albeit he actually received one fewer yellow card in the most recent season. He played the full 120 minutes in the round of 16, a real show of faith in the Fulham man by Roberto Martinez.

Key players expected to impact the Portugal vs France match

Pepe

This could either be Pepe’s crowning achievement or the final farewell. He has been totally integral to the Portuguese performance levels so far, playing the vast majority of minutes, despite there being a phalanx of capable understories who are really to come into the team ahead of of him. Part of Pepe, probably his legs, would probably prefer a one v one battle against the likes of Olivier Giroud, but will more likely to be tested for pace against Mbapppe and Thuram.

Ngolo Kante

Kante’s return into the French fold has been one of the real treats of the tournament so far. The World Cup winner looks back to full sharpness, despite playing in the Saudi Pro League, and has been putting out fires all over the pitch for Didier Deschamps, as well as breaking forwards and using the ball well. There well not be that many dances around the top table left for Kante and we can expect the former Leicester and Chelsea man to run through a brick wall for his country here
