In what comes as a major blow ahead of one of the season’s most important matches, Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe is out with a thigh injury, the club has confirmed.

“Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg. Pending evolution,” the statement from the club read.

Mbappe suffered the injury last night during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Deportivo Alaves.

It was initially reported that the problem was nothing major and a case of overload with the expectation being that the French superstar would be available to face Atletico Madrid later this weekend.

However, now, Mbappe is confirmed to have suffered an injury that is set to put him out on the sidelines for an extended period.

As per journalist Mario Cortegana, club sources suggest that Mbappe will be out of action for a period of three weeks.

It would mean that Mbappe will now miss this weekend’s derby against Atletico Madrid but also the UEFA Champions League encounter against Lille and the La Liga game vs Villarreal before the international break.

If everything goes according to plan, the 25-year-old will return to face Celta Vigo right after the international break on October 19.
