Newcastle United have added Fulham ace Rodrigo Muniz to their list of striker targets this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
They reportedly made an informal enquiry for Muniz, with a £40 million deal being mooted amid talks with intermediaries.
The Magpies have faced frustration in their bid to sign a new centre-forward, with Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro choosing other clubs.
Yoane Wissa wants to join them, but his Brentford have refused to let him go, adding to Newcastle’s woes this summer.
They had just started pushing for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but he reportedly prefers a move to Manchester United, leaving Newcastle further stranded.
They have now added Muniz to their list of targets. He is behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order at Fulham and would jump at the chance to be first-choice elsewhere.
Muniz scored 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions last term and 10 the season before.
He has shown glimpses of his potential and will likely explode with more game time.
Even though he might not be as renowned as Newcastle’s other targets, Muniz would still be a decent pick-up for the club.
Legendary Newcastle striker Alan Shearer believes he is ‘horrible to play against’.
Muniz is a tenacious, sharp centre-forward with deadly finishing and decent hold-up play. He could thrive in manager Eddie Howe’s system.
The 24-year-old represents better value for money than Sesko, whose price tag is well above €70m The Fulham ace knows the Premier League and needs no adaptation time.
Howe has revealed that the club has not received any offers for Alexander Isak amid interest from Liverpool and Al Hilal.
The Swede was not with the team as they lost 1-0 to the K-League XI at the Suwon World Cup Stadium today.
