In the summer, AC Milan tracked Tammy Abraham for months, and when the Rossoneri reunited the striker with his former Chelsea teammate Fikayo Tomori, there were smiles shared. However, the smiles are fading, and there must be improvement from both.

The duo’s story starts together, on the pitch at Cobham and rising through the English pyramid together, peaking with some impressive Premier League performances together.

Since then, both moved to Italy, and there was always a ‘dream’, according to Milan News, that they would reunite in Serie A. This summer that happened, and at first, there were fantastic signs. In the weeks that have followed, though, the performances have been poor, from both.

The story reached its climax so far against Fiorentina with the penalty incident, and there are now suggestions that Paulo Fonseca will send both players to the bench for the fixture against Udinese to send a message.

It is a message that must be clear, with performances not up to their own standards, let alone those of the Diavolo. Tomori has shown signs of this for quite a while – last year problems were showing – but this season, they are showing even more frequently, even in games where Milan are the dominant side.

For Abraham, it is a case of consistency and contributions. In recent weeks, he has failed to offer much after two contributions in his first two games, a trend which must reverse itself.

Fonseca’s message must offer both a chance to reset, both in terms of their mental state and their performances.
