Milan are reportedly growing increasingly confident that goalkeeper Mike Maignan will commit to a new contract extension, but there is still some work to do before an agreement is struck, according to updates from transfer expert Matteo Moretto.

Milan ‘optimistic’ for Maignan renewal

The France international is currently tied to the Rossoneri until the summer of 2026. Milan would like to get him signed up to a new contract this season to avoid a situation where he is into the final 12 months of his deal during next summer’s transfer window.

Maignan is currently earning a wage in the region of €3.2m in San Siro, according to recent reports, but it is expected that he will request a significant salary increase if he is to commit to Milan long term.

According to updates from Matteo Moretto, Maignan is set to become one of the highest earners at the club if he does sign a contract extension.

At present, Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez earn more than anyone in the San Siro dressing room, earning annual salaries in the region of €5m-€5.5m. Moretto suggests that this is the sort of salary Maignan can expect if he does sign a new deal.

Though Milan are feeling positive about the situation, there is still work to be done. Negotiations are not yet at their final stages, and it is unlikely that an agreement or announcement will be made in September.
