Manchester City are monitoring SC Freiburg and France right-back Kiliann Sildillia ahead of the reopening of the summer transfer window in July, as per a new report.
City have completed the signings of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, securing the arrivals of the quartet in the 10-day June transfer window before they flew out to the United States on Thursday.
Kevin De Bruyne has completed a free transfer to Napoli and Scott Carson has been released at the end of his contract, which represents a busy few weeks at the Etihad Stadium after a sub-standard 2024-25 campaign.
City have also reached a full agreement to sign Rosenborg and Norway midfielder Sverre Nypan and are expected to loan out the teenager as soon as they complete what will be a record transfer for a player coming out of Norway.
With the arrival of left-back Ait-Nouri from Wolves, Manchester City’s newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana has addressed a glaring area of concern very early into his tenure, with Ait-Nouri signing a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Kyle Walker has been left out of the Club World Cup squad after being told to find a new club following the end of his six-month loan spell at AC Milan, which means Manchester City could still bring in a new right-back before the new season.
Newcastle’s Valentino Livramento and Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso are understood to be amongst the leading candidates and there remains money to spend to progress the summer overhaul after City’s shrewd business in signing Ait-Nouri, Reijnders, Bettinelli and Cherki for £110 million.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told Manchester City News that the Blues have held a long-standing interest in SC Freiburg and France right-back Kiliann Sildillia, who is entering the final 12 months of his current deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
It has further been reported that Liverpool were also keen on Sildillia before they completed a deal for Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who has been signed at Anfield to replace Real Madrid superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It remains to be seen how serious Manchester City will be in their pursuit of a new right-back when they re-enter the transfer market after the conclusion of the Club World Cup, where they will face Wydad AC in their opening group-stage fixture next week.
Outgoings are expected to dominate the headlines in the next few weeks as the likes of Walker and Jack Grealish – also left out of the Club World Cup squad – actively look for a new club after disappointing seasons that saw the England pair struggle for minutes and fall down the pecking order in their respective positions.
Manchester City will also hope to keep hold of Bernardo Silva as the Portugal international enters the final year of his contract amid interest from Benfica, having held a long-standing desire to move closer to his homeland.
