Liverpool received and rejected a verbal £70 million offer for striker Darwin Nunez from Saudi Pro League (SPL) club Al-Hilal (via Anfield Watch).

The SPL remains in the market for European stars who can be enticed to the Middle East.

Liverpool marksman Nunez was on their radar, but they inexplicably rejected the unbelievable proposal.

The decision is horrific. It is fair to say Nunez’s time at the club has been a disappointment.

After bagging a crucial winner against Manchester City on his debut in the Community Shield, the former Benfica man raised expectations.

However, Nunez has managed a measly 22 league goals over two-and-a-half seasons, missing 50 big chances along the way.

When presented with the easiest of chances, his decision-making is mind-boggling, while his tendency to walk on a disciplinary tightrope is as annoying as it is endearing.

The decision to reject the offer should be a sackable offence. Liverpool might never see a bid remotely close to that sum for the incredibly wasteful centre-forward.

Sesko for Nunez?

The market is brimming with exciting forwards that Liverpool can sign ahead of next season, even if the Reds have to let them stay at their current clubs until the 2024/25 season is over.

Arsenal are trying to strike such a deal for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, and the Reds should do all they can to muscle their way into the conversation.

Sesko is a terrific prospect who can be one of the best of his generation if he continues to develop at this rate.

He is a tall, fast and agile striker with impeccable ball-striking skills. His game looks like it can translate to the Premier League.

Sesko has found his groove with six goals in his last eight games for Leipzig. Liverpool cannot afford to let the 21-year-old sign for a rival.

He can be the difference-maker in a potential title race next season.
