Liverpool are in touch with a player’s entourage ‘almost every day’ as they bid to line up a deal.
Jeremie Frimpong has already landed at Anfield and he will be followed by his now former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Florian Wirtz, on a club record transfer.
Milos Kerkez is tipped to land from Bournemouth to strengthen the left-back position, but Liverpool are also widely expected to sign a striker.
Darwin Nunez is a wanted man, with Napoli currently leading the hunt for his signature, and striker target Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike knows Liverpool will need to raise funds to bring him in.
Ekitike is also interesting Chelsea and Manchester United, but Liverpool are making sure they position themselves well.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool are in touch with Ekitike’s camp ‘almost every day’.
Keeping such strong lines of communication open with the striker’s people could well suggest that he is a key target for Liverpool this summer.
Ekitike may need to wait though before Liverpool can make a firm move for him and it is also unclear if the Reds will meet Eintracht Frankfurt’s €100m price tag.
The Bundesliga club sold Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in the winter transfer window, but despite his exit they did not miss a beat as they qualified for the Champions League.
Ekitike did come close to moving to the Premier League earlier in his career when Newcastle United chased him.
He decided against joining the Magpies though and instead signed for Paris Saint-Germain.
Eintracht Frankfurt landed Ekitike from PSG initially on a loan deal before then turning the arrangement into a permanent deal.
