Manchester United have established contact with German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the last 48 hours to express concrete interest in Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike.
More than a few Premier League teams are in the market for a striker this summer, among whom are Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
The Red Devils have already made a move in the direction of improving Ruben Amorim’s attack by signing Matheus Cunha.
They have also been looking at a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who has indicated that he wants to join Manchester United.
They are showing no signs of slowing down, though, and have now decided to go after Eintracht Frankfurt’s striker Ekitike.
According to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, Manchester United have established contact with the Bundesliga club in the last 48 hours to express concrete interest in the player.
The Red Devils have been doing their homework on a possible swoop for the striker.
However, striking a deal for the player is expected to be complicated given Eintracht Frankfurt want €100m.
A fact that will play against Manchester United is that they do not have European football to offer to the player which even his current club will guarantee.
Following Ekitike’s goal against Tottenham in the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krosche, insisted that he did not care whether that strike had helped increase his price tag.
As things stand, the race to sign Ekitike is going to heat up in the coming days.
He finished last season with 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches overall.
