Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny are set to be the starting and the backup goalkeepers, respectively, for FC Barcelona next season.
The Catalans signed the Spaniard a few weeks ago, after paying his release clause to their bitter local rivals RCD Espanyol. The Pole was signed in the middle of the last season, after Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, and his contract was also recently extended for two more years.
This situation leaves the German goalkeeper, Ter Stegen, who has been the undisputed starter in goal for the Blaugrana club for most of the last decade, in a very delicate situation. He is not only not going to be the undisputed starter next season, but he might also not be the first choice to replace Garcia.

In such a context, his future at Barcelona is highly uncertain. For now, Hansi Flick has already explained the situation to him, but he has communicated his desire to stay at the Blaugrana club and fight for the starting role.
Meanwhile, other clubs across Europe are also keeping a close eye on the situation. One such club is the Ligue 1 side Monaco.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the principality club talked with the goalkeeper some days ago and is aware that he wants to stay at Barcelona. However, they have not yet given up on him and are still keeping him in view.

After quite an inconsistent season, the Monegasque club is looking to bring more stability to their goal, and for this purpose, they have already contacted the German goalie’s entourage. However, they did not get a favorable answer from Ter Stegen, as he intends to stay at Barcelona.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of their meetings for Ansu Fati’s loan, the Ligue 1 side also discussed the goalkeeper’s signing, either on loan or permanently, with the Blaugranes.
In fact, there are not expected to be a lot of problems between the two clubs in this operation, and they can even share the goalie’s wages if he agrees to a move.
AS Monaco are also keeping their eyes on some other targets, including Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and Ugurcan Çakir, but Ter Stegen is the most attractive option. But for now, it remains to be seen whether he will leave Barcelona and where he will be playing next season.
