1. FC Köln sign their second attacking player after agreeing to pay the exit clause of Isak Johannesson’s Fortuna Düsseldorf contract. The Icelandic international put pen to paper on a contract until 2030 at the Bundesliga’s newcomers.
Born in England, Johannesson’s first big break came with a move to Sweden’s top-flight team IFK Norrköping. After that, he joined Danish record champions FC Copenhagen.
Fortuna initially signed the midfielder on a loan deal before making the move permanent at the start of this season. He scored 15 goals and assisted 11 in his two-year spell for the 2. Bundesliga outfit.
"I'm very happy to be signing with a club like 1. FC Köln, and to be able to play in the Bundesliga next season,” said Johannesson after signing his contract at his new club. “I'm looking forward to the great atmosphere at the RheinEnergieSTADION. I'm very grateful for the club's trust and can't wait for things to finally get started."
"Isak has developed very positively in recent years, and he’s ready to make the step into the Bundesliga. He is a strong runner, versatile in central midfield, and brings the footballing quality we were looking for in our squad. We are very pleased that he has chosen us," said Köln‘s sporting director Thomas Kessler
