1. FSV Mainz beat Bundesliga competitors for the signing of the 24-year-old Benedict Hollerbach. The striker signed a four-year deal at Mainz after his fruitful season in keeping Union Berlin’s Bundesliga status.

Hollerbach spent time in Bayern and Stuttgart academies before signing his first professional contract at third-tier club Wehen Wiesbaden. In his third and final season with Wiesbaden, he scored 17 goals to help the club win promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.

The Starnberg native netted 14 Bundesliga goals in his two-year stay at Union Berlin. He was only a goal short of reaching double-figure numbers this term. Mainz will play in European competition in the upcoming season after qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

“I'm really looking forward to the new sporting challenge in Mainz and the trust they've placed in me,” said Hollerbach after signing his contract. “I feel that I fit perfectly into my new team and look forward to the intense and courageous football with them.”

"We are delighted to have secured Benedict (Hollerbach). He is one of the most dynamic and hard-working players in the Bundesliga and can be deployed in a variety of attacking positions,” said sporting director Niko Bungert.

“He is a strong player, quick to attack, and a goal threat. At Union, he has developed tremendously on and off the pitch over the past two years and has matured into a leading player."
