Striker Mateo Joseph impressed on the international stage Tuesday night, as Spain's U21s got their UEFA European Championship campaign underway with a 3-2 win over Slovakia.
The 21 year old continued his rich form for Santi Deni's La Rojita side, increasing his tally to 8 goals in 11 games, since making his debut last year.
Spain, who are considered one of the tournament's favourites, were quick off the mark, as Marc Pubill opened the scoring after just 16 minutes, before Joseph doubled the lead two minutes later.
Sporting the number 9 shirt, the Leeds United star linked up well with Sevilla's Juanlu, whose cross was neatly struck first time past the Slovakian keeper.
Two early second half goals saw the tournament hosts pull the score back to 2-2, before César Tárrega scored a late winner for Spain.
Topping Group A after the first match, Spain's U21s will next face Romania on Saturday, before closing out the initial stage against Italy, which could potentially see Joseph face Leeds teammate Willy Gnonto.
