Manchester United have had a quiet start to the summer transfer window, but they could be busy in the next few days.

The Red Devils have already reached an agreement to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. The Dutchman will undergo his medical tomorrow before penning a five-year contract.

The club are also advancing in talks with Bayern Munich over Matthijs de Ligt, as per Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sport Germany journalist posted on X: “It’s decided: We’ve been told that Matthijs de Ligt wants to join Manchester United with immediate effect.”

He added that talks are advanced between the clubs over the transfer fee. There is already a verbal agreement in place with De Ligt over a long-term deal.

De Ligt could be United’s second signing after Zirkzee

The Red Devils are working simultaneously on multiple deals. They have finalised a transfer for Zirkzee, and De Ligt could be the next in line to join the club.

The Ajax graduate has already given the green light to reunite with manager Erik ten Hag. He played some of his best football under the Dutchman in Amsterdam.

With Raphael Varane’s exit, the door has opened for De Ligt to cement a starting role with United.

De Ligt, who has been described as a ‘full-blown superstar’ by Bundesliga’s official website, should be a like-for-like replacement with his strong distribution skills.

He should not take much time to adapt, having already worked under Ten Hag for two-and-a-half seasons at Ajax where he was handed the captaincy too.

Aside from De Ligt, United are exploring a deal for another young centre-back. They are currently in talks with Everton and Lille for Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro.
