Inter Milan will only sign a striker in the remaining weeks of the transfer window if both Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic leave.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that even if Correa departs, Inter will not replace him.

Inter still have more than a week to consider their plans in the transfer market.

The Nerazzurri have made no secret of the fact that they are going after a defender to back up Alessandro Bastoni in the squad.

But one other area in which Inter could still make a signing is in attack.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has admitted that he wants five senior forwards in the squad.

That would be to allow for more rotation and greater squad rotation over the long season.

Last campaign, Inter’s squad did look stretched thin in attack at times, particularly when any of the four forwards were out with an injury.

However, the Nerazzurri may not be willing to give Inzaghi his wish, the Corriere reports.

Inter Will Only Sign A Striker If Arnautovic & Correa Leave

At the moment, Inter do have five senior forwards in the squad.

Alongside Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and Mehdi Taremi, there are Correa and Arnautovic.

Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi wouldn’t necessarily mind keeping Correa around. Even if the Argentine has struggled since joining Inter, he would at least make up the numbers.

But according to the Corriere, Inter are still very much working to offload Correa.

And even if Inter are successful in finding a new club for the 30-year-old, that does not mean they will sign a new striker to replace him.

The Nerazzurri could wait until the January transfer window to sign an attacking reinforcement. But they wouldn’t move to replace Correa right away.

On the other hand, if Arnautovic were to also leave then Inter would certainly sign a striker.

Thus far, however, the Austrian has rejected all offers to leave the Nerazzurri, most recently from Genoa.
