Manchester United have had a difficult start to the Premier League campaign with only eight points from their opening seven games.

There have already been questions regarding manager Erik ten Hag’s future, but no clarity has been provided on the situation.

According to the Guardian journalist Jamie Jackson, United had an executive meeting in London yesterday, but no update has been issued on Ten Hag’s role.

However, the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-controlled football department could still decide to remove Ten Hag in the coming days.

United have not identified a successor for the Dutch tactician, but it Thomas Tuchel reportedly held talks this summer.

The German was interviewed by technical director Jason Wilcox, and he remains of interest if a change is deemed necessary.

If the Red Devils require more time to appoint a permanent replacement, club assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy could take interim charge.

The 48-year-old could use the opportunity as an audition to become the permanent manager.

There will hopefully be an update on Ten Hag’s future soon. Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada came up with a public statement backing him last month.

Something similar could be necessary this week to put an end to the speculation over his future.

United need clarity over the situation ahead of the next round of fixtures. They can’t head into those games with doubts over Ten Hag’s position.

The club are six points adrift of the Champions League places and face a must-win situation after the international break to avoid losing further ground.
