‘Honoured to be a Parisian’ – Mary Earps signs two-year deal at PSG | OneFootball

England’s Mary Earps has signed a two-year contract with Paris St-Germain on a free transfer. The Lionesses’ No 1 goalkeeper since 2021, Earps left Manchester United at the conclusion of her contract at the end of June after turning down an offer of a new deal from the WSL club.

Earps, who has kept 25 clean sheets in 50 internationals and has won the Fifa Best women’s goalkeeper award two years running, said: “Joining Paris Saint-Germain is a fantastic opportunity. I’m very honoured to become a Parisian and I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates.

“Together, we’re going to give our all to help the club shine and make our fans proud. I’m determined to contribute to our future success so that Paris Saint-Germain continues to rank among Europe’s top clubs.”

It is understood her offer from United was more lucrative than PSG’s but she had her heart set on trying to win more silverware and playing in European competitions. United missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth in the WSL last term.

The move means the Nottingham-born Earps will play abroad for the second time in her career, following a spell with Wolfsburg in 2018-19, immediately before her five years with Manchester United. She has also played for Birmingham, Doncaster and Reading.

United, with whom Earps won the FA Cup final at Wembley in May, did not “align” with her career plans, the 31-year-old said when her exit was confirmed on Saturday, adding: “The club is about to undergo a period of transition, and unfortunately I don’t feel it aligns with the timing of where I’m at in my career, therefore I think now is the right time to make a change and embark on a new challenge.

“There aren’t the right words, or enough words, to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all.”

Earps is part of the 25-player England squad that travelled to the Netherlands on Monday for a training camp, before the Euro 2025 qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden this month.

She missed England’s most recent fixture, an away win against France, with a minor hip injury but is continuing her return to full fitness with rehab in the Lionesses camp. Sarina Wiegman’s side will face her native Netherlands in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday.

However, the injured Lauren James, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Kayla Rendell remain out after missing June’s game in France with the Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse being handed her first senior call-up.

Moorhouse will join the squad at St George’s Park from 8 July, as will the Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway. Both were delayed because of club commitments.
