The Sports Director of the German national team, Rudi Voller, has stated that Antonio Rudiger might still play against Denmark in the Euro 2024 round of 16 despite recovering from a recent problem.

He emphasized that they are monitoring Rudiger’s recovery every day and it is too early to predict his availability definitively.

It must be noted that Rudiger sustained a thigh injury at the end of Germany’s match against Switzerland and is currently undergoing separate recovery to potentially make it in time for the upcoming game on Saturday.

It was expected that Rudiger would miss the initial training session leading up to the Denmark match, but whether he will be absent from the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund this Saturday remains uncertain.

The medical team of the German Football Federation aims to have the Real Madrid defender back in training by Thursday at the latest. The next couple of days will be crucial in determining his fitness.

Voller, speaking with firsthand knowledge, remains optimistic about the possibility of including Rudiger in Julian Nagelsmann’s starting lineup.

“Today he had a short running session in the morning. Now we have to wait day by day,” Voller was quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“In the end, Antonio and the medical department have to decide together. At the moment, it is still too early to say anything definitive. As I said, he had a good race session this morning,” he added.

It is no secret that Rudiger’s presence is crucial for Nagelsmann, especially since one of his other starting centre-backs, Jonathan Tah, is suspended and unavailable for the Denmark match.

Currently, Nico Schlotterbeck is set to replace Tah, but if Rudiger doesn’t recover in time, Nagelsmann may need to choose between Waldemar Anton or Robin Koch, the other two centre-back options for the German team.
