Gassama shines as Rangers put one foot in next round

Rangers secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier, with Djeidi Gassama putting in an outstanding display.

After a disappointing start to their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw against Motherwell, Russell Martin opted to tweak his line-up for this clash.

Cyriel Dessers was handed his first start of the season and played a key role in setting up Gassama, who slotted home the opener to continue his impressive early form for the club.

Dessers then calmly converted from the penalty spot to double Rangers’ lead, before Gassama struck again to make it 3-0 going into next week’s return leg.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday for the decisive second leg.
