Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville is arguably their best and most irreplaceable player, and is having a fantastic season in the Championship, with Liverpool said to be monitoring his progress.

Relegation is rarely good for a club, but the one player in particular who Leeds are reaping the rewards from retaining this summer is Summerville, with the winger emerging as one of the most dynamic attacking players in the Championship this season.

The Dutchman made the move from Eredivisie club Feyenoord in September 2020 for a fee of just £1.3 million, which was an absolute bargain in hindsight with the then 18-year-old signed as one for the future, initially linking up with the club's Under-23 side.

Summerville came with a promising reputation after playing 21 league games for Dutch top-flight side ADO Den Haag the previous season, despite only turning 18 during his campaign on loan with the Eredivisie side.

He ripped up the development teams for Leeds, and broke through to the first-team meaningfully last year, scoring four times and providing a further two assists from 28 Premier League games last season.

Alongside Georginio Rutter, Summerville is the key forward for Daniel Farke. Prior to the final game against Southampton next weekend, he has scored 20 goals and created a further 10 this season from 45 games in all competitions from the left-wing, cementing him as Farke's go-to winger from a number of wide options available.

Now 22, Summerville has shown exactly why Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta brought him to the club three-and-a-half years ago. Farke's pool of players on the flanks is the deepest part of his squad, but Summerville is the most productive and was rewarded for his campaign with the Championship's Player of the Year award.

Summerville transfer latest

Summerville signed a new deal at the start of last season, keeping him tied down at Elland Road until the summer of 2026. Leeds were hopeful he could improve upon last term and develop in the second tier, and he certainly has.

It was imperative that the club kept hold of Summerville this season, as he could be the most crucial factor between automatic promotion and a play-off berth come next weekend, but the club will have braced themselves for transfer interest in their star man, as failure to gain promotion would surely mean a departure this summer.

Summerville has emerged as a potential transfer target for Aston Villa, with Football Insider reporting that the Midlands outfit have set their sights on the Leeds star, but other reports from HITC have claimed that five Premier League clubs are keen on the Leeds winger.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and West Ham are all thought to be keeping tabs on his progress this season, highlighting the sheer volume of interest in his services.

Interest has also been reported from Germany, with Bayer Leverkusen striker Adam Hlozek a reported target of Leeds in the summer transfer window. The Whites could be interested in a swap deal involving Summerville, according to a report from SportBILD, via Sport Witness.

Liverpool are close to appointing Arne Slot as manager this summer, but transfer targets have long been on the agenda, with Fabrizio Romano shedding further light on their interest in Leeds' star man.

Speaking via his Here We Go podcast, the Italian transfer guru explained that the club are monitoring Summerville ahead of the summer. He said: "Centre-back - they will sign a player in that position.

"Then, looking at some opportunities for offensive players, and talented players.

"What I am hearing is true that Summerville at Leeds United is one of the players they are monitoring.

"So now, let's see what Liverpool will decide to do. But the player is really appreciated."
