Everton are set to complete the signing of Jack Harrison from Leeds United on another season-long loan.

Highlights Another loan deal: Jack Harrison set to stay at Everton for the 2024/25 season after playing a key role for Leeds United. No loan fee: Everton won't pay a fee, but will cover Harrison's wages for the duration of the loan, set to return to Leeds in 12 months. Leeds' regret: Loan clauses led to players leaving, including Harrison, costing the club transfer fees they desperately need.

Jack Harrison is set to spend another season on loan at Everton from Leeds United as the two clubs close in on an agreement.

The winger initially joined the Whites in the summer of 2018, and he would go on to play a key role for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they won promotion to the Premier League and then secured a top ten finish.

However, Leeds struggled after the Argentinian’s departure, and they were ultimately relegated to the Championship in 2023.

Everton to re-sign Jack Harrison on loan

That saw Harrison, along with many of his teammates, activate a clause in his contract that enabled him to leave on loan, and he spent the previous campaign with Everton.

And, it appears a similar deal will be struck once more, as The Athletic revealed that the 27-year-old is poised to join the Toffees for the 2024/25 campaign, where he is once again sure to be a regular for Sean Dyche.

The update states that Everton will not pay a loan fee to sign Harrison, but they will cover all of his wages for the duration of his loan.

Jack Harrison could still have Leeds United future

It was reported last month that the clause that would allow Harrison to leave on loan again, and obviously that is set to be the case.

Yet, as this is just a straight loan, it means the player will be set to return to Elland Road in 12 months' time, as there’s no option or obligation to buy for the Premier League side.

When that happens, Harrison will still have three years left on his contract, so there’s no reason why the wide man won’t continue to play a big part for Leeds in the years to come, although it remains to be seen whether the fans would be happy to have him back.

Leeds United will rue loan clauses

It was bizarre to see so many players leave Leeds on loan last summer, and you had real sympathy for the 49ers as these clauses were put in by the previous regime.

The one positive was that it allowed the club to reduce the wage bill, but the reality is that it saw them miss out on millions in transfer fees.

That’s what’s happening with Harrison here, as he is a player who is surely worth in excess of £10m, at least, in the current climate, but Leeds have to let him leave on loan at a time when they need to raise money to comply with PSR rules.

So, it’s far from ideal for the club that this is going to happen, but, as outlined above, it’s down to the former owner and Victor Orta.

Following on from that, more outgoings are on the cards for Leeds, and it’s pleasing for the club that Harrison’s situation will be sorted early.

A high-profile sale still feels likely, but then the Yorkshire side will be able to start looking at incomings, as Daniel Farke will want a few new faces through the door as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League next season.
