Manchester City and the possibility of a double raid on the Bundesliga for two of Germany’s brightest talents is certainly not being ruled out in a new report.
Recruitment officials within the Premier League champions are continuously looking at ways of ensuring their success within the game beyond their existing squad, and with a number of stars not getting any younger, succession planning is well underway.
Kevin De Bruyne will no doubt be the most difficult player to replace when that time comes, and Manchester City will likely have to invest significantly in order to bring in a player that could make up for the loss of the Belgian’s contributions.
As part of that search, Manchester City could turn towards the German game, following reports throughout recent summer markets linking the club with the likes of West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
And while the belief is that City could invest just once to replace De Bruyne, a new report has suggested that a double recruitment from the very top of the Bundesliga should not be ruled out in the not too distant future.
According to the information of talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, reporting on the situation revolving around Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze and interest from within England, it is pointed out that Manchester City hold historical interest in the England international.
However, the Premier League champions reportedly have two other ‘main targets’ in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, with a double Bundesliga raid on the blockbuster duo labelled as a ‘distinct possibility’.
Musiala in particular has long been linked as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City, with reports from Germany during the summer market linking the Bayern Munich star’s future to the Belgian’s time at the Etihad Stadium “coming to an end”.
BILD journalist Christian Falk stated earlier in the summer market, “There is an idea at Manchester City to try and sign him as the successor of Kevin De Bruyne,” when discussing the future of Jamal Musiala.
“I don’t know if the Belgian international will leave this summer or in the next, but the story of De Bruyne at Manchester City is coming to an end.”
For now, Manchester City and Kevin De Bruyne will likely remain in discussion over the possibility of renewing the 33-year-old’s contract in Sky Blue, amid growing interest in his situation from both Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer in the United States.
