Plenty of interest is being shown in the 35-year-old.

Danny Rohl didn't completely shut down talks of a move to Southampton, amid reports linking him with them and RB Leipzig.

The young German boss has had to deal with a lot during his first year-and-a-half with the Owls, with the latest drama being the players not being paid their March wages until Monday (7th April), which came close to handing the club a three-window transfer ban.

That threat still looms. If Dejphon Chansiri pays his staff just one day late in the next three months, Wednesday will be hit with the automatically imposed ban by the EFL.

He looked visibly worn down by it all following Saturday's loss to Hull City. The combination of that with Southampton, who previously held an interest in Rohl, sacking their boss Ivan Juric stirred speculation about the German's future at Hillsborough.

TalkSPORT reported that he and former Hull boss Liam Rosenior, who is now in charge of French side RC Strasbourg, were two of the Saints' top three candidates. Rohl has now responded to these links.

Danny Rohl's response to Sheffield Wednesday exit reports

The manager stressed that he was only focused on Wednesday-related matters when he was asked about the stories associating him with a return to St Mary's, where he previously worked as an assistant, to become their boss.

According to The Sun, Rohl is Southampton's preferred option, while German reports have also named him as a viable contender to take over at RB Leipzig.

Speaking after Wednesday's draw with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night, Rohl said that his full focus remains on his current side, but he did leave the door open for a conversation about his future later down the road.

"There are a lot of rumours but this is no question mark; my focus at the moment is here," stated the 35-year-old, via Dom Howson. "If there comes a moment we can speak about my future, it’s after the season."

Danny Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday departure feels inevitable

It became clear pretty quickly, even when the Owls were scrapping to survive last season, that they had unearthed a real gem with Rohl. The man had no managerial experience prior to arriving at Hillsborough, but he has proven himself to be nothing short of one of the most exciting, young coaching prospects in England.

It feels like only a matter of time until he turns his Premier League ambitions into reality. With the chaos cloud that constantly lingers over Wednesday, they just don't feel like the club that he will make that step with, despite his desire to do it with them.

The club have made a big step forward this season, going from relegation contenders to becoming a stable mid-table outfit. But the positivity that should have come with that jump isn't there because of the off-the-pitch distractions.
