The 2025 Euro tournament is hurtling towards us at lightning speed and with just four days to go before Iceland and Finland get the tournament underway, we look back at how our City stars did at Euro 2022.
A real buzz is starting to build ahead of the opening game next week and if you miss watching your favourite City stars on the pitch, then you’re in luck.
This time around, we will be represented by nine players who have been selected to play for their national teams this summer.
Khiara Kheating, Alex Greenwood, Jess Park and Lauren Hemp will feature for the Lionesses as they look to retain their crown as the current holders of the European trophy.
The Netherlands have called up Kerstin Casparij and Vivianne Miedema to their squad, with Germany picking Rebecca Knaak.
City’s second summer signing, Iman Beney will also be representing the host nation, Switzerland and Leila Ouahabi is set to star for Spain.
With another iconic summer for women’s football around the corner, find out how our current and former players got on at the 2022 Euros.
We think you know how this one went down, but of course we’re going to recap the most iconic moment in women’s football history in England to date.
Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh, Alex Greenwood, Ellen White, Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hemp, Demi Stokes, Chloe Kelly and Ellie Roebuck all represented City for the Lionesses.
With an impressive roster of players set for the national stage, the country was ready to host the tournament, but I don’t think anyone could predict just how it would unfold.
After topping Group A, England progressed through the knockout rounds and fending off Spain and Sweden before meeting Germany in the final at Wembley Stadium. The home of English football. Almost 56 years to the day since the men won the World Cup on home soil. They couldn’t do it, could they?
Of course they could.
After a tense first half ending in a stalemate, Ella Toone found the opening goal in the 62nd minute before Magull found the equaliser for Germany.
After 90 minutes it was still level and the game headed into extra time as the nation held their breath and anticipated disappointment.
Then came the moment England fans had dreamed of and Chloe Kelly created a moment of magic.
Lucy Bronze helped Lauren Hemp's corner into the danger area and Kelly prodded in at the second attempt to record her first international goal and secure England’s first major title.
It was impeccable timing and a strike that Germany had no answer and sent a record 87,192 Wembley crowd into dreamland.
Keira Walsh was deservedly awarded player of the match from the final and was later also named in the Team of the Tournament.
Across Euro 2022, Georgia Stanway and Ellen White contributed two goals to the historic win with Lucy Bronze and Lauren Hemp also netting one each.
After finishing top of Group C, Filippa Angeldahl’s side went on to reach the semi-finals where they faced England at Bramall Lane.
Goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby saw the Swedish side bow out of the competition. Russo’s impudent backheel against the Blågult also went on to be named the goal of the tournament.
Former City midfielder Julie Blakstad was selected for her nation as she made her debut at a major tournament.
Despite a 4-1 victory over Northern Ireland which saw Blakstad net the opening goal, it wasn’t enough to see Norway progress from Group A as they finished third behind England and Austria.
