The Club World Cup is very real now.
It’s not just a distant oddity which we can worry about when we get to it – it’s here. The players have touched down in the USA, and our first game is just a couple of days away.

There was always a slight question about how seriously people would take it, but as ever the players are obsessed with winning everything they can and the prize money on offer has made it very important to the club too.
Everything’s lining up for all those involved to care a lot, and that should mean a really interesting month.
Backup goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen knows he’s got a fight on his hands to play next season, and this could be a huge chance for him, as he explained to the official Chelsea website:
“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a really good tournament. It’s the World Cup to be the best in the world, it’s always fun, so we will have a great time. Hopefully, we can win it.”
Chelsea have been out of the Champions League for a couple of years, and this will be their first competitive test against some of the top teams for the first time since. Jorgensen was confident they’d be up to the test:
“It can be very important for us. We showed [our quality] this year in the Premier League against teams that were fighting in the Champions League. We even had two teams in the Europa League final, which shows the league is very tough.
“I know and I am very confident we should be playing against these teams, and we have all the capability of doing that.”
