Transfer reporter Matt Law has been explaining a big Chelsea transfer situation with an offer that was made in intriguing updates.
Blues boss Enzo Maresca has already given his thoughts about new signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr who all join his squad out in America for the Club World Cup this summer.
And it looks like Chelsea are still trying to add another new defender to the ranks as well, with an apparent offer being rejected for a Serie A star this week and other such links that have come up in recent weeks.
There will be plenty more incomings and outgoings at Chelsea during the long summer transfer window that will reopen tomorrow morning on the day Chelsea play their first Club World Cup game of the tournament that kicked off in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Chelsea were trying to get a deal done to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan last week but failed to get it done at least in time for the first summer transfer deadline.
But there is every chance that they revisit this deal again before the summer transfer window ends.
Mike Maignan celebrates a save.
“What took me by surprise is when I got a little tickle towards the end of last season that they were interested in his situation, it was told to me then it was one to probably watch for late August, for if he hadn’t signed a contract and hadn’t gone anywhere and there was a potential of quite a favourable deal,” Law said on Chelsea and Maignan.
“And the thing that surprised me obviously is it went the other way. They went for him earlier or made the check on him earlier rather than later and looked at doing it in time for the Club World Cup.
“So that’s the part of that that took me by surprise, not the interest. Look, they put a valuation on him, about 15 million pounds and wouldn’t deviate from it. Now I wrote when it came out that they had made a check on him because I’m not convinced that even got to the stage of them actually making a proper formal bid for him this time around.”
