Brendan Rodgers yesterday stated his position, Celtic’s board must be on same wavelength

Brendan’s stated his intentions, the board had better be on the same wavelength or there is going to be serious unrest at Celtic this season…

Brendan Rodgers yesterday, at his media conference at Lennoxtown that was attended by The Celtic Star, spoke of his talks with the Celtic hierarchy over a potential new deal. He has spoke to both Celtic’s largest single shareholder Dermot Desmond and also club CEO Michael Nicholson but no new deal has yet been offered to the Celtic manager who is now in the third season of his three year contract.

And yesterday in true Rodgers style the Celtic manager made it abundantly clear that he will only be interested in committing if his full expectations are met in the transfer market this summer.

Brendan as we know is an ambitious football man, and was crystal clear on his desire to keep the club moving forward, but only if his bosses are on the same wavelength. There will be no running to stand-still under his watch as Celtic manager and if the necessary ambition is NOT forthcoming over the next month then the Irishman will see out this season and then leave the club he loves.

Make no mistake Brendan Rodgers wants to remain at Celtic but also wants to do that with guarantees that he can take the club forward and not simply settle for life in the slow lane.

That’s what we as supporters want to hear, an elite coach who harbours serious ambitions, and one who is fully focused on moving forward, and that’s what we have in Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan is a class act, he’s been there and done it all, he’s one of the most successful managers in the history of Celtic football club and I reckon that the vast majority want him to extend his stay, that goes without saying, but do our custodians share that same sentiment?

One way or another we are going to find out, and we can only hope that the board are on the same wavelength as the man who currently occupies the dugout.

There are two sides to this stand-off and so far we have heard Brendan’s point of view from the manager himself. He could not have been clearer. In contrast the board seems content to rely on old board friendly bloggers from a different era to sneak out a snidey message. The same outlet was doing exactly the same thing in the run-up to Rodgers being re-appointed after Ange Postecoglou left. It’s pathetic and it’s harmful to Celtic.

Yesterday Brendan Rodgers showed the support some respect by outlining his position very clearly. Why can’t Michael Nicholson do something similar but do so in a more professional manner than via an out of touch blogger writing on a site far removed from today’s vibrant Celtic fan media scene.

Michael Nicholson could easily put forward his own position – and that of the board – in an interview with Gerry McCulloch on Celtic TV. Does the Celtic Board lack ambition? Will the manager be backed in the transfer window? Will Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn be replaced using the £27m collected in transfer fees? Will the club be offering Brendan Rodgers a new contract? That’s some pointers for starters for Gerry to ask.

But as usual Michael Nicholson will say nothing directly to the Celtic support who look set to have their own say at the match against St Mirren tomorrow afternoon.
