Bournemouth defender Max Aarons and Peterborough winger Kwame Poku are set to join Rangers, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Ibrox club are ready to back new manager Russell Martin this summer as they eye the Scottish Premiership title next term.

Rangers want competition and cover for captain James Tavernier, and Aarons fits the bill.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia and is expected to leave the Premier League club again this summer.

Aarons can also play at left-back and will give Martin options in two positions, providing a huge boost for the new manager.

Poku is a much-needed addition in attack. He weighed in with 12 goals and eight assists in 27 appearances in League One last term.

The 23-year-old Ghana international also bagged 12 goals and eight assists in 49 games in 2023-24 and is currently a free agent after he was released by Peterborough last month.

Poku brings plenty of experience and quality to the table, having played over 200 games as a professional. He can play on both wings and in central midfield.

His strengths include playing through balls, key passes, finishing and dribbling, and Rangers could do with such a player in attack.

Aarons will be a huge addition to their defence after almost 250 games across the Premier League and English Championship. More additions at both ends of the pitch will follow in the coming weeks.

Rangers finished 17 points behind Premiership winners Celtic last term and were also defeated by them in the final of the Scottish League Cup.

Championship club Queen’s Park dumped them out of the Scottish Cup in the fifth round in February, and Martin will be desperate to improve their fortunes next season.
