Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Borussia Dortmund could look to extend the loan of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
Dortmund have reached an agreement with Chelsea to extend Chukwuemeka’s loan to the length of their tenure at the Club World Cup. However, there is a possibility that they could extend it by another season.
Chukwuemeka’s parent club, Chelsea, are looking to offload the midfielder, but if no taker can be found before the end of the window, Dortmund could swoop in and extend the 21-year-old’s loan. There are said to have already been discussions about the possibility of this.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Westfalenstadion, but injuries hampered his playing time. When Chukwuemeka has played, he has impressed, but due to his absences, he has been unable to hold down a place in the starting 11.
Dortmund are currently working on finalising the sale of Jamie Gittens; once that is complete, they can look to improve their squad further. The only signing they have made this summer has been the arrival of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.
