With the Englishman’s pending transfer to Chelsea, Dortmund will earn up to €65m once the deal is finalised.

The decision is that Dortmund will then use the money to invest in the attack; it is unknown whether it will be an outright replacement for Gittens. One player it won’t be is Ardon Jashari, the Club Brugge midfielder, is set to move to AC Milan.

Johan Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven is one of the names who have been linked with die Schwarzgelben in recent weeks, and he is open to moving to the Bundesliga, but Dortmund face competition from Monaco and Marseille in France.

Omari Hutchinson of Ipswich is another name linked and recently played at the under-21 Euros for England. One name that will not return to the Signal Iduna Park is Jadon Sancho. Dortmund had recently registered interest in Sancho, but will head in a different direction.
