There could be some options for those at Ewood Park to consider who are currently without a club

The 2024 summer transfer window proved to be an eventful for Blackburn Rovers in terms of incomings.

In total, nine new players were added to the first-team squad at Ewood Park before the window closed on the 30th August.

Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Danny Batth, Andi Weimann, Balazs Toth and Todd Cantwell all completed permanent moves to the Lancashire club.

Meanwhile, Owen Beck, Lewis Baker and Amario Cozier-Duberry signed on season-long loans from Liverpool, Stoke City and Brighton respectively.

With the window now closed, Blackburn cannot sign players from other clubs until the market reopens in January.

However, if they do want to add to their squad before then, something they have not yet done, with suggestions they will not do so, there is the option of recruiting via the free agent market.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at three players currently without a club who could be worth considering for Blackburn Rovers if they do decide to add to their squad this month, right here.

Cyrus Christie

Right-back is one position where Eustace is arguably somewhat short on experienced options to call on this season.

Having previously spent most of his senior career playing in this role despite being more naturally attacking, Joe Rankin-Costello no longer looks to be in contention for this role.

Meanwhile, Leo Duru is still lacking in experience, with the 19-year-old having made just three senior appearances this season.

As a result, it is centre-back Hayden Carter who has stepped into this role recently in the injury-enforced absence of Callum Brittain, where he has admittedly impressed.

However, that has left Blackburn slightly short on depth in the centre of defence, and so a move for Cyrus Christie could arguably be worth considering for Eustace and co.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Hull City in the summer, and has plenty of Championship experience, making over 300 appearances at this level.

With that in mind, he could be a reliable option on the right for Blackburn, giving them a second established natural option in that position.

That could also give Duru the chance of a January loan move to get some useful senior experience for himself come the January window.

Sylvester Jasper

The final day of the summer transfer window saw Rovers linked with a move for young Fulham left-winger Martial Godo.

Ultimately though, they could not complete a deal before the window closed, and so that may be a position they still want to strengthen.

If they are to do so between now and the January window, then Sylvester Jasper is one who they may well look into, given they were linked with a move for him last month.

The former Fulham winger is a free agent after leaving Portimonense in the summer, following one season with the Portuguese top-flight club.

As a result, the 23-year-old could be an option for Blackburn to help add to their options on that side of their attack over the next few months.

With five goals and eight assists in 81 senior appearances to date, Jasper also has some useful senior experience, and has shown he has the potential to provide an end product as well.

Consequently, all of that could make those links with Jasper something to think about revisiting for Rovers, if they feel they need to add in this position before the January window.

Nathan Ferguson

It is probably fair to say that his move from West Brom to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2020 did not go as Nathan Ferguson would have hoped.

In his four years with the Eagles, the defender managed just a single appearance for the club, before departing when his contract expired this summer.

That is something Blackburn may now want to consider taking advantage of, as they look for fresh options in the centre of their defence.

Behind their first choice pairing of Dom Hyam and the aforementioned Carter, their two other options of Kyle McFadzean and Danny Batth have both done excellent jobs when called on.

However, the pair are both well into their thirties, and are out of contract at Ewood Park at the end of this season.

Bringing in the 23-year-old could therefore give Rovers a longer-term option in that position, who could also help with depth in that area now, if Carter has to continue to fill in at right-back.

Given Ferguson himself can also fill the full-back roles if needed, he could do a number of useful jobs for Blackburn, particularly if he rediscovers the form he showed at the start of his career.
