The reserve team at La Liga giants Barcelona have today been dealt what could prove to be a considerable blow.

This comes amid confirmation that they could be forced to navigate a crucial upcoming round of fixtures sans the services of an absolutely crucial figure.

The player in question? Mikayil Faye.

Stopper Faye, for his part, has long stood as an ever-present at the heart of the Barca Atlètic backline, with his stellar performances having culminated in the 19-year-old being called up for first-team duties on a number of occasions of late.

In turn, it will mark a major source of concern for all associated with the Blaugrana to hear that Faye could well miss his side’s most important fixtures of the term.

The gifted defender was on Saturday afforded his latest senior call-up by the Senegalese national team.

As much comes ahead of the country’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against DR Congo and Mauritania.

Such fixtures, however, coincide with the dates on which Barca Atlètic are likely to be playing their part in the first round playoffs for promotion to Spain’s 2nd tier, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Rafa Márquez’s troops could yet secure automatic promotion, but a spot in the playoffs looks the most likely scenario as things stand.

With Mamadou Mbacke already ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury, Márquez and co. could in turn be forced to navigate their upcoming playoff appearance without either of the club’s first-choice central defensive options.
