Aston Villa are moving closer to signing of Victor Lindelof following his exit from Manchester United, according to The Athletic.
Manager Unai Emery has been eager to add more depth to his defence this summer.
Villa had previously been linked with Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot, but he is on the verge of joining Crystal Palace.
Lindelof departed United when his contract expired this summer, ending his eight-year stay at Old Trafford.
He made 284 appearances and helped the club lift the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup the following year.
Lindelof joined United in 2017 from Benfica, where he had already claimed three Portuguese league titles.
His arrival at Old Trafford was part of a long-term rebuild, and he provided consistent service across several seasons.
Villa view him as a defender who can bring experience, composure and leadership.
Emery wants players who can cope with the demands of a tough schedule, and Lindelof’s background at the highest level makes him an appealing choice.
The club have already strengthened their forward line by signing Evann Guessand.
Reinforcing the defence is now the priority, with Lindelof fitting the profile of an affordable and reliable option.
