A recent report from La Repubblica, as relayed by giallorossi.net, stated that Arsenal are one of the clubs, along with Inter Milan and Napoli, to compete for the signature of the AS Roma captain, Lorenzo Pellegrini. Roma might go on to allow their club captain to leave in the ongoing January transfer window.

Arsenal have entered the race for Lorenzo Pellegrini?

Pellegrini has had a mixed tenure at Rome since his move from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window of 2027. He has been a youth player for AS Roma. However, he could settle in with the first team of Roma after coming back from his tenure at Sassuolo. The club captain has already scored 55 goals and provided 58 assists during his stay at Rome.

He has been the captain of AS Roma since Edin Dzeko moved away from the club. However, the 28-year-old has not been consistent with his performances for the team in the recent few seasons. The player is still wanted by fellow Serie A clubs like Inter Milan and Napoli. However, the Gunners have now entered the race to sign the 28-year-old in the ongoing winter transfer window.

Many Premier League clubs have wanted Pellegrini over the years, but a deal has not materialized as of yet. However, it can be now, given that the North London club are seriously considering signing him due to the unclear future of Thomas Partey. Moreover, Jorginho is also currently serving his last six months of the contract, and hence the Gunners need to desperately sign a midfielder. His traits of being the captain of AS Roma have also made him dearer to Mikel Arteta.

Why does Mikel Arteta want him at the club?

Pellegrini possesses creativity, vision, and passing accuracy. His technical skills are top-tier, and he excels in both offensive and defensive roles. Leadership, work ethic, and adaptability. All these traits will make him an asset for any club that signs him. Hence, multiple clubs are keeping tabs on the Roma club captain and want to sign him.

The Gunners do have obstacles in their path to sign him in the form of Inter Milan and Napoli. Milan are also ready to offer Davide Frattesi along with money to sign Pellegrini from AS Roma. So, it is still unclear where Pellegrini will move to. Whether it will be Arsenal, Inter Milan, or Napoli: Only time will tell.
