The Gunners have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks as they continue to plan for a bright future

Teenage goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard says he chose Arsenal over other interested clubs because the Gunners suit his style of play.

Arsenal have signed the 18-year-old after a successful stint on trial from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

Nygaard will initially join up with Arsenal’s academy teams next season but hopes to one day break into the senior side.

The teenager has revealed that he was attracting interest from other suitors, however he chose Arsenal for one specific reason.

Nygaard has described himself as a “modern goalkeeper”, who likes to have the ball at his feet and play out from the back.

Such a way of playing is in keeping with how manager Mikel Arteta wants his Arsenal goalkeepers to operate, with David Raya establishing himself as the team’s No1 last season.

“I’m really pleased to finally be here. I have a good feeling in my stomach,” said Nygaard.

“As you all know, Arsenal is a big football club and I was really happy when my dad told me there was some interest and I was going here on a trial.

“I’m a modern goalkeeper who likes to play with my feet. I’m also good on the line, making great saves.

“I played for FC Nordsjaelland who also like the goalkeeper to play a lot, so they did a great job developing me.

“I’m looking forward to playing games again and winning a lot of games next season while developing.

“I’ve chosen Arsenal because I could see they like to play out from the back and that feels really good. The people around the club have been really great, so it wasn’t a hard decision.”
