Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City legends Alex Scott, Gilly Flaherty and Steph Houghton have been inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) Hall of Fame for 2024.
ALEX SCOTT
Scott, synonymous with football coverage for the BBC, enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Arsenal where she won 21 trophies over 12 years, including one WSL title and one UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The 40-year-old played 140 times for England, and since retiring has gone on to enjoy a successful broadcasting career.
STEPH HOUGHTON
Houghton, a former teammate of Scott at Arsenal, won seven trophies in three years – two league titles, two Women’s FA Cups and three Women’s League Cups before moving to Manchester City in 2014.
The former centre-half went on to captain the club for the entirety of her decade-long stay, adding a further seven trophies to her cabinet.
Houghton also captained the national team for eight years and has gone on to carve a punditry career across the women’s and men’s games.
GILLY FLAHERTY
Another inductee is Flaherty, who once held the league record for the number of games played in the top flight.
The centre-half joined Arsenal in 2003 where she won 17 trophies in 10 years at the club, including two WSL titles and five Women’s FA Cups.
A move to Chelsea in 2014 didn’t stop the silverware, as she added three more WSL league titles and two Women’s FA Cups to her trophy haul.
The former England international is now having a career in the media having retired from playing two years ago.
REBECCA WELCH
Welch becomes the first official to be inducted into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame following her retirement earlier this year.
In December 2023, Welch became the first female official to oversee a Premier League fixture when she officiated Fulham vs Burnley.
Since hanging up the whistle, she is now working with PGMOL as the manager of the Select Group Women’s Professional Game.
Flaherty, Houghton, Scott and Welch’s official induction will take place at a special Barclays WSL Hall of Fame celebration event in January 2025.
