Anthony Gordon was such am important player for Newcastle United last season.
The 2023/24 campaign seeing the winger getting double figures in terms of Premier League goals AND the same with Premier League assists.
No wonder Anthony Gordon was named Newcastle United player of the season.
Not just for those wonderful direct goal involvement stats, but also for his all-round play, causing havoc match after match down that left-hand side.
This season I think fair to say Anthony Gordon has started a bit more slowly for Newcastle United, probably no surprise with the very short pre-season he had, due to the lengthy international duty and short pre-season.
With Newcastle United generally not hitting the heights as a team so far this season, I think it is especially for flair players in those circumstances.
Those expected to score and/or create the chances to score.
After such a stunning season as well, there is that weight of expectation as well, that other players might not placed on them by fans.
I think a lot of criticism of Anthony Gordon by certain people in the media and indeed some Newcastle United fans, has been harsh.
Look at this very revealing updated table from The Other 14, which to me proves just how well Anthony Gordon has still done, up to a point, even if not matching how good he was last season, yet! Only three Premier League players this season have created more chances (not including set-pieces) than the NUFC winger.
