Despite scoring seven times in six Premier League matches from December through to February, the goals have again dried up for Rasmus Hojlund.

Indeed, the Manchester United forward has found the back of the net just once in the eight matches he’s played since returning from a brief injury setback at the end of March.

It came in the Reds’ only win of that period – a 4-2 victory over now-relegated Sheffield United, in which the Dane sealed all three points with an 85th-minute contribution following Bruno Fernandes’ two-goal heroics.

In yesterday’s defeat to Arsenal, Hojlund managed just one shot during his 88 minutes on the pitch and completed only 10 passes. It was expected to be a struggle for him, given that he was going toe-to-toe with – statistically – the best backline in the league, and William Saliba and Gabriel ensured the No.11 didn’t get a sniff at David Raya’s goal.

Such struggles for Hojlund have led to some portions of the fanbase harbouring concerns over his run of form. However, a statistic shared by StatmanDave this afternoon shows exactly why the 21-year-old is finding it troublesome leading United’s line.

He states that the team have created just five chances for Hojlund in the past eight league matches. In comparison, Manchester City players produced six chances for Erling Haaland in a single match when he struck Wolves for four last week.

Numerous pundits have labelled United’s wingers greedy or selfish in the past, and in truth, you can’t help but agree with them after seeing the aforementioned data.

Significant changes need to be enforced imminently – ideally, before the FA Cup final on May 25. Not only is it detrimental to the side’s goalscoring hopes, it’s damaging Hojlund’s reputation, even though he’s proven he can be prolific when the team works in harmony.
