Dick Advocaat will remain Curaçao’s national coach until the end of this calendar year. The 77-year-old coach has extended his expiring contract, with the football association announcing this on Thursday afternoon.
Advocaat can still lead Curaçao to the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Advocaat’s new deal to the end of the year also applies to his coaching staff. Additionally, a clause dictates that if Advocaat leads the Caribbean island to the World Cup for the first time in history, he can stay on until next year’s final tournament.
Curaçao reached the third and final round of qualifying by topping Group C. Starting in September, the country will compete for a World Cup spot in a group with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bermuda. The group winner qualifies directly, and the best runners-up can still qualify for the final tournament via play-offs.
