Real Madrid Considering Theo Hernández Return Amid Left-Back Search

Real Madrid Exploring Options After Davies Setback

Real Madrid’s pursuit of a left-back has taken a new turn after Alphonso Davies’ contract renewal with Bayern Munich complicated their long-standing interest in the Canadian. Now, the Spanish giants are revisiting a familiar name, with Fichajes reporting that “Theo’s entourage claims that he is willing to make an effort to facilitate his signing for Real Madrid, aware that returning to the Bernabéu would mean a significant step forward in his career.”

Theo Hernández, who previously played for Madrid between 2017 and 2019, has seen his future at AC Milan cast into doubt. His recent performances have been criticised by both fans and the Italian media, raising speculation over whether he will remain at San Siro beyond this summer.

Theo Hernández Open to Bernabéu Return

Hernández’s attacking qualities have never been in question. His pace, overlapping runs, and ability to influence the final third make him one of the most dynamic left-backs in European football. Despite the challenges he has faced in recent weeks, Fichajes highlights that “his speed, offensive ability and experience in the European elite make him an attractive option for the Whites, who are still looking for a reliable solution for the left-back.”

The Frenchman is reportedly open to making sacrifices to facilitate his return to Madrid, recognising that a second spell at the Bernabéu would be a major step in his career. However, AC Milan have yet to signal any willingness to part ways with their defender, leaving the situation unresolved for now.

Real Madrid’s Dilemma at Left-Back

Real Madrid’s search for a left-back has been a lingering issue. Ferland Mendy has been dependable but lacks the attacking dynamism required to complement Carlo Ancelotti’s system. Fran García has shown promise, but questions remain over his ability to establish himself as a regular starter at the highest level.

Theo Hernández offers a solution that combines experience, attacking intent, and familiarity with Madrid’s demands. However, as Fichajes notes, “everything seems to indicate that the Frenchman would not be part of Florentino Pérez’s plans, although everything could change in the coming months.” With Madrid still weighing their options, a summer move remains uncertain.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Real Madrid, the potential return of Theo Hernández presents an intriguing debate. On one hand, his attacking qualities make him a natural fit for a Madrid side that thrives on full-backs providing width and energy. His experience since leaving the club—playing in Serie A and regularly featuring in the Champions League—has made him a more complete player.

However, there are concerns. His first spell at Madrid was far from convincing, and his defensive vulnerabilities remain a talking point. If Madrid are willing to invest in a left-back, would they not prefer a younger, long-term solution rather than a player who has already left once?

From AC Milan’s perspective, Hernández is a key asset. Losing him without a suitable replacement would be a major blow. If Madrid want to make a move, they will need to convince Milan, Hernández, and ultimately, Florentino Pérez that this is the right decision.
