Manchester City appear to have suffered an injury blow during tonight’s UEFA Nations League match between the Netherlands and Germany. Defender Nathan Ake was stretchered off during the first half of the match with an apparent muscle injury. With Pep Guardiola’s side about to embark on a hectic section of their fixture, the news of Ake’s injury is a blow for the world champions.
Nathan Ake went down late in the first half while chasing the ball. The Manchester City defender looked to have pulled a muscle in his pursuit of the ball. Ake appeared to be quite distressed as he was stretchered from the field. The early indications are that it could be a serious injury that may sideline Ake for the immediate future.
Following the international break Manchester City will take on Brentford on Saturday at the Etihad. Following that they will take on Inter Milan in their UEFA Champions League opening game. That is followed by two games in 49 hours against Arsenal and Watford. The champions will need all hands on deck for what lies ahead. It now seems that Nathan Ake will be unavailable for those fixtures and potentially longer.
An update on the status of Nathan Ake’s injury is expected when Pep Guardiola fronts the media on Friday. But on first impressions, the injury sustained by the Dutch international does appear to be a serious one.
