Since his €60m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Real Madrid in 2019, it’s safe to say that Luka Jovic’s career development hasn’t exactly gone to plan. With 50 goal contributions (40 goals, 10 assists) in 93 appearances for Frankfurt, the Serbian striker was regarded one of Europe’s top prospects. A move to European powerhouse Real Madrid beckoned, but his career nosedived.
Just two goals and one assist in 17 La Liga games in his first year at Real resulted in a loan back to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he failed to re-launch his career. The Serb then remained in Madrid for the 2021/22 campaign, scoring once and providing three assists in 15 league games for Los Blancos before a permanent departure from the Spanish giants.
In 2022, Jovic joined Fiorentina on a free transfer where he would score six goals and provide three assists in 31 Serie A games. The following season, he would join Milan for €500k where he scored six and created one in 23 league games. Last season, the now 27-year-old scored just twice in 553 minutes and after another poor season, is available on a free transfer.
During his career, per Transfermarkt, Jovic has amounted €95m in transfer fees and although he will look back fondly on his first spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, it will certainly be a question of what could have been. Where Jovic will end up next is anyone’s guess.
