The 2025/26 Newcastle United home shirt went on sale on Thursday 29 May.
Next season’s shirt had actually been worn by the players in the final game of the 2024/25 season.
The new Newcastle United home shirt then going on sale to the fans four days later.
That was when it was also revealed what the prices were.
I have noticed a fair few negative comments online about the new shirt price from some Newcastle United fans and so decided to see what our ‘Premier League big seven’ rivals were charging in comparison for their replica 2025/26 shirts.
So here below I have named the kit manufacturer and given the three prices in order of adult, junior, ‘authentic’ just like the players wear (in brackets are the prices charged for 2024/25 shirts):
Newcastle United (Adidas) – £85 (£80) adult, £55 (£55) youth, £120 (£110) just like the players
Tottenham (Nike) – £85 (£85) adult, £65 (£65) youth, £125 (£125) just like the players
Arsenal (Adidas) – £85 (£80) adult, £60 (£55) youth, £120 (£110) just like the players
(Liverpool (Nike) – £80 adult, £60 youth, £125 just like the players)
Manchester City (Puma) – £85 (£80) adult, £60 (£60) youth, £120 (£110) just like the players
Chelsea (Nike) – £84.99 (£84.99) adult, £54.99 (£64.99) youth, £14.99 (£124.99) just like the players
Manchester United (Adidas) – £85 (£80) adult, £60 (£55) youth, £120 (£110) just like the players
Liverpool are yet to launch their 2025/26 home kit, however, as you can see above they were already charging the same/similar prices and safe to say they won’t be reducing their prices.
It is the trend, all major clubs charge more and more, almost every year.
As an illustration with Newcastle United, the 2022/23 home shirt cost £65, that went up to £70 for the 2023/24 one, £80 for the 2024/25 one, now £85 for the latest 2025/26 shirt.
Nobody pretends they are cheap but Newcastle United charging very similar prices compared to the ‘big six’ (rest of ‘big seven’?)
However, last year, we saw one Premier League club making a very different decision…
Shropshire Star report – 27 June 2024:
Wolves are cutting the price of next season’s shirts as part of a new kit deal with SUDU.
The 2024/25 pro jersey, the same as that worn by players, will be available to buy for £80, a reduction of £35 from the £115 it cost to buy last season’s pro shirt, made by Castore.
Replica kits will be priced at £58, compared to £60 last season.
Wolves say they have been able to save costs thanks to the deal with SUDU, which was announced on Thursday, allowing them to “streamline” the supply chain.
A newcomer to kit manufacturing, SUDU was launched earlier this year by Levy Merchandising, with the backing of Wolves’ owners Fosun.
Levy Merchandising’s head of partnerships, Joe Poole,
“We’ve seen the price of Premier League jerseys increase consistently over the past few years. Our philosophy is that a pro jersey should not cost £125, Wolves’ will be £80. A replica jersey should not cost £80, Wolves’ will be £58.”
I have just checked and Wolves are yet to launch their 2025/26 kit.
Interesting to see what they do this time.
So last season, compared to Newcastle United, Wolves charged £22 less for a replica shirt (£58 v £80) and £30 less for the ‘pro’ one (£80 v £110).
Whilst when you compared them to Tottenham and Chelsea, Wolves charged £27 less for a replica shirt than both Chelsea and Spurs (£58 v £85) and £45 less for a ‘pro’ one (£80 v £125).
What do you all think?
Should Newcastle United be taking a similar stand to Wolves and charging far less for replica kit?
Or is it a case of Newcastle United needing to charge similar prices, closer to the usual suspects such as Spurs and Chelsea, in order to try and compete financially with them?
