An insight into the chances of La Liga giants Real Madrid bringing in a new defender during the winter transfer window has on Sunday been provided.

The subject of the options at the disposal of Real boss Carlo Ancelotti at centre-half has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the week to date.

This comes amid nothing short of a crisis at the heart of Los Blancos’ backline.

After long-term absentee David Alaba was joined on the sidelines by youngster Joan Martínez, who suffered an ACL blow of his own, Éder Militão was then forced into a premature departure from the Brazilian national team camp.

Not only that, but backup option Jacobo Ramón is expected to spend the next couple of weeks on the treatment table, too.

Following the departure of Nacho during the summer, such problems have only served in further highlighting the alarming lack of central-defensive options in Real’s squad.

Calls, in turn, have already begun to mount across the club’s fanbase for reinforcements to be sought out following the turn of the year.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, however, then the Blancos faithful need not get their hopes up…

As per a report from Marca:

‘The search for that central defender who can arrive for a decade continues, but do not expect him to arrive in the January market.’
